We are so excited to introduce one of the most inviting and kind people in the High Country, Karl Mohr of Mohr Fun Events! Karl is a seasoned wedding expert with over 20 years in the wedding and event industry. Stepping out on his own by launching Mohr Fun Events in 2015 he aims to bring a fun and high-energy spirit to each wedding and event, he does that incredibly well. In fact, he has brought that spirit to 287 weddings since Mohr Fun Events first in 2016!

"I love being a wedding DJ! I started performing at parties two decades ago, and eventually was discovered by a successful DJ business on the Outer Banks. After spending years learning the ropes performing for that company, I started Mohr Fun Events in 2015. we take our skills and offerings up another level by continuing to learn new techniques and implement more features. We love bringing immersive experiences to diverse crowds at weddings at all the most majestic venues across our area." - Karl Mohr

Being the Perfect MC

DJs are much more than music professionals. A DJ's job is also about maintaining the flow and energy in a room, ensuring announcements are made professionally, and acting as the show host of the entire event! Your DJ must be personable and able to energize a crowd and be an active participant in your wedding day experience.

Elevating the Industry

Lighting

Some DJs choose to include advanced lighting in their packages to elevate dancing and enthrall your guests in the atmosphere of your wedding. Profesional DJs understand how to light complex scenes and work with other visual vendors in order to provide to the seamless experience

Pyrotechnics

This is more unique but after working with Karl and seeing his pyrotechnics in action, sparklers just can't compete. If you are a couple wanting a grand exit provided by a professional who will maintain the safety of your guests this is something to be interested in!

Photobooth

Photobooths are a fun and innovative way to interact with your guests and allow you and your guests to have immediate print or digital memories to share with family, social media, or just save to reminisce. These booths can be both manned or unmanned but make for a fun wedding day activity.

The Skills of a Wedding DJ

Karl says that to him the most important skill of being a wedding DJ is knowing how to accommodate a wide variety of music tastes. He works very closely with his clients to carefully curate a music list as well as to understand their vision and motivations for their wedding or event. This grants him the ability to make client-centered entertainment decisions to best accomplish the goals of the wedding or event!

"There are literally millions of songs for me to choose from when painting the acoustical ambiance that is unique for every event. The most important thing for me is bringing to life the vision of the client, so we spend however long it takes to gather info and plan accordingly." - Karl

We also discussed how being able to understand the acoustics of different environments plays a major role in sound quality throughout the event. These are some of the small details that wedding and event DJs are considering when planning your dream day.

"There are settings that we need to adjust to make our equipment sound right for the different environments in which we perform we actually have a dedicated system for measuring the acoustical properties at venues which allows us to tune our equipment in a custom signature for each venue. We turned in the knowledge that we have acquired into another business called Dynamic Acoustical Solutions, where we actually come into the venues and install acoustical treatments in an effort to make every event at that venue sound better." - Karl

The Steps

1. Discuss priorities for all services

2. Outline budget

3. Gather quotes for all vendors in the top 5 priority list

4. Pick vendors based on the priority level established in step one that fits the outline in step 2

"Being able to read the crowd is a critical component of our skillset as DJs, allowing us to adapt to the flow of energy and maximize that energy in a rhythm that vibes with the event. There’s a lot more to it than most people realize! It’s an art and a science, and we are into all of it." - Karl Mohr

Technical Ability

By far DJs bring the most equipment to the wedding day. All this equipment means also knowing how it works, maintaining the equipment, knowing how to troubleshoot technical issues, and most importantly having a backup for when that equipment fails. This might sound like a grim thought but its what can make or break an occasion so professionals like Karl carefully consider backups, spare equipment, how to best deploy their equipment, as well as how they will insure their equipment.

Reach out to Karl

We highly suggest reaching out to Karl if you are planning a wedding or event. He is a super great guy and a cornucopia of knowledge in so many different fields in this industry. He is also just so much fun as told by both his brand names!
